Clean Eating

Dr. Hillis has long been regarded as an expert in diet and nutrition. Popular literature in this field has evolved over the years, but currently the two most important books on nutrition are Wheat Belly by William Davis, MD, and Grain Brain by David Perlmutter, MD. The topic of gluten elimination is far from a current health fad as some may think but rather has become an integral part of effective healthcare management this decade. I would encourage anybody with healthcare problems to seriously review the material in this book. All of the testing recommended in that book can be obtained through our office.

In terms of general dietary advice, we are certainly evolving from the Mediterranean Diet, which was a wonderful approach in many ways but is obviously complicated by wheat issues. The most current thinking by many doctors in functional medicine circles would encourage us toward a Modified Mediterranean/Modified Paleo diet. An important book on general dietary reform at this time is The Paleo Diet by Dr. Loren Cordain. This will put you on the right track. It is always appropriate to modify these dietary approaches to the biological individuality of each person. Adjustments may need to be made for any given individual especially as regards issues of individual food allergies and sensitivities.

There are a number of fine nutriceutical/dietary regimens that are available. Dr. Hillis endorses a number of these types of programs including those by Xymogen, Metagenics, and Apex Energetics. Below you will find an explanation of an intestinal support dietary and supplement program as well as a program for liver-detoxification/biotransformation. Specific general guidelines are outlined below for the Apex program for your convenience. This is provided as a convenience for Dr. Hillis' patients and may need modification for any given individual.
